Life at Shalom

Life at Shalom is shaped by moments of learning, laughter, responsibility and belonging. Across our two sister centres — Shalom OVC Home and Acts of Mercy — children find safety, routine and the chance to grow with dignity. This video offers a glimpse into their everyday world.

A community where every child belongs.

Whether in the bustling Shalom OVC campus or the intimate Acts of Mercy grounds, every child experiences the same foundation: a place to be safe, a place to learn, a place to be loved.

Shalom OVC Home is a vibrant community of learning and growth. The larger of our two centres, it’s home to more than 700 children and a full school community. Daily life is filled with activity and opportunity: classrooms buzzing with lessons, vocational workshops in progress, older students caring for younger ones, and children gathering for meals, sports and prayer.

Acts of Mercy is modest in its facilities but rich in hope, resilience and community spirit. Children gather in simple classrooms, share meals outdoors when needed, fetch water together, and support one another through the challenges of daily life.

One family, shared values

Though Shalom OVC and Acts of Mercy differ in size and infrastructure, the rhythm of daily life is united by the same values:

  • Belonging — every child is known by name

  • Responsibility — older children model care for younger ones

  • Learning — school, vocational skills or life lessons every day

  • Community — chores, play and meals are done together

  • Hope — each child encouraged to dream beyond their past

Shaping a child’s future

Life at Shalom is built on small, powerful moments — a child learning to read, a young girl stitching her first uniform, a boy confidently leading a younger group, a group of children praying or laughing together.

These quiet moments lay the foundation for independence, confidence and a hopeful future.

Your support enriches the daily life of these children, and genuinely impacts the rest of their lives.

Shalom Home only achieves what it does because of people who believe every child deserves dignity, stability and opportunity.
